How do I check a Polish company (KRS)?
Search the company by name, 10-digit KRS number, NIP (tax number) or REGON in the Ministry of Justice’s National Court Register (Krajowy Rejestr Sądowy, KRS) search, and download the current or full extract (odpis aktualny or pełny). Companies such as sp. z o.o. and S.A. are in the KRS; sole traders are in a separate register, CEIDG. To confirm VAT status and the company’s registered bank accounts, use the Ministry of Finance’s White List of VAT taxpayers.

How to check it manually
- Open the KRS search (wyszukiwarka KRS) and search by KRS number, NIP, REGON or name.
- Download the current extract and check the name, legal form, registered office, NIP, REGON and share capital.
- Read the section on representation: the management board (zarząd), and how the company is represented, for example whether two board members must sign together.
- Check the sections on liquidation, restructuring or bankruptcy, and the full extract for the history of changes.
- Search the White List of VAT taxpayers (Wykaz podatników VAT) by NIP, REGON or account number: it shows VAT status and the bank accounts the company has reported.
- Search the Central Register of Beneficial Owners (CRBR) for the declared beneficial owners.
What it tells you
- The official registration, status, representatives and how they may sign.
- Whether the company is an active VAT taxpayer, and whether a bank account you were given is on the White List.
- The beneficial owners declared to the CRBR.
What it doesn’t tell you
- Sole traders, who are registered in CEIDG rather than the KRS.
- Whether the declared beneficial owners are accurate: CRBR entries are filed by the company.
- Financial health: check filed financial statements and payment history separately.
How SONAR automates it
When you screen a company registered in this country, SONAR looks it up in the Polish National Court Register (KRS) and puts the record (legal name, number, status, legal form, registered address and officers) in the report with a link or ID for the source and the date it was retrieved.
For Polish companies it also checks the Ministry of Finance White List of VAT taxpayers.
The same run screens the company and every director and owner it finds against 8 sanctions lists, the OpenSanctions PEP dataset, the ICIJ Offshore Leaks Database and adverse media, and returns PASS, REVIEW, FLAG or NOT RUN for each check. A source that could not be reached is shown as NOT RUN, never as clear.
SONAR is a due-diligence tool for checking vendors, partners, resellers and suppliers. It compiles public-record data. It is not a regulated AML / KYC provider, does not verify identity documents, and is not legal advice.
You can try it on 2 companies a month for free, no card needed; every report includes a receipt for each source it used.

The Ministry of Finance’s public list of VAT taxpayers. It shows a business’s VAT status and the bank accounts it has reported, so you can check that you are paying a registered account.
