How do I check a Danish company (CVR)?

Search the company name or 8-digit CVR number on Virk Data (datacvr.virk.dk), the free search of the Central Business Register (CVR) run by the Danish Business Authority (Erhvervsstyrelsen). It shows the status, company form, address, industry code, management and board, owners where registered, and filed annual reports, which you can download. Bankruptcies and other official notices are published in Statstidende.

How to check it manually

  1. Search Virk Data by CVR number or name.
  2. Check the status, company form (for example ApS or A/S), start date, address and industry code.
  3. Review management, board and who can sign for the company (tegningsregel).
  4. Review the owners shown on the record.
  5. Download the latest annual reports (årsrapporter).
  6. Search Statstidende for bankruptcy and other official notices.

What it tells you

  • The official registration, status, management and signing rules.
  • Owners shown in the register, and filed annual reports.

What it doesn’t tell you

  • Ownership the company has not registered, or ownership through foreign companies that you then need to trace in other registers.
  • Events after the latest filing.

How SONAR automates it

When you screen a company registered in this country, SONAR looks it up in the Danish Central Business Register (CVR) and puts the company record (legal name, number, status, legal form and registered address) in the report with a link or ID for the source and the date it was retrieved. SONAR does not pull the directors from this register yet, so check them manually as described above.

SONAR reads the CVR data through cvrapi.dk, a third-party service over the CVR register; it is not itself a government service.

The same run screens the company itself, and any people SONAR finds in its other sources, against 8 sanctions lists, the OpenSanctions PEP dataset, the ICIJ Offshore Leaks Database and adverse media, and returns PASS, REVIEW, FLAG or NOT RUN for each check. A source that could not be reached is shown as NOT RUN, never as clear.

SONAR is a due-diligence tool for checking vendors, partners, resellers and suppliers. It compiles public-record data. It is not a regulated AML / KYC provider, does not verify identity documents, and is not legal advice.

You can try it on 2 companies a month for free, no card needed; every report includes a receipt for each source it used.
